Indonesia's Own Christine Hakim Joins the Cast of Eat, Pray, Love

Indonesian actress Christine Hakim who had an important role in this film appear attractive by wearing traditional Indonesian “kebaya” bright red color and Batik cloth.

Eat Pray Love itself tells the story of Liz Gilbert (Julia Roberts) who searching for what she really wanted in life, Gilbert steps out of her comfort zone, risking everything to change her life, embarking on a journey around the world that becomes a quest for self-discovery. And one of its destinations are Bali, Indonesia.

This film is also in Play by Javier Bardem, james franco Richard Jenkins and Billy Crudup. This film is taken based on the bestselling novel written by Elizabeth Gilbert .Christine Hakim, an Indonesian actress and producer, stars in the upcoming movie based on Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir, Eat, Pray, Love. Christine Hakim, who was born on 25 December 1956, was cast as Wayan, the traditional Balinese healer, who, along with Ketut Liyer, helped Gilbert rediscover her ability to love.

As an actress, Christine Hakim has appeared in more than thirty films. She won the Citra Award for Best Actress–one of the most prestigious award in Indonesian movie industry–six times and the Asia Pacific Film Festival’s Best Actress award four times.

As a producer, her achievements are also worth noting. In 1998, her feature-length film, "Daun Di Atas Bantal" (Leaf on a Pillow) received the Special Jury Prize at the Tokyo International Film Festival and Best Film Award at the Asia Pacific Film Festival. Three years later, she produced another feature-length film, "Pasir Berbisik" (Whispering Sands), which won the Special Jury Prize at the 2001 Seattle International Film Festival. She then became a member of the jury at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival.

She has also established the foundation to provide milk for undernourished children on the Island of Java and the region of Aceh. This charitable organization also offers scholarships for Indonesian children and young directors. The list goes on, which is why it was small wonder when she received a lifetime achievement award from Manila's Cinemanila Film Festival, was nominated Asian Heroine by Time Magazine Asia in 1999 and was designated UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Teacher Education in South East Asia.

With that extensive background, Christine Hakim will be more than a match to Julia Roberts, who won Best Actress at the 2001 Academy Awards for Erin Brockovich and assumes the role of Elizabeth Gilbert.

Currently, the filming still continues in Bali, namely Jimbaran and Ubud. Ubud, a small town which has turned into a popular resort for relaxation and inspiration, was also voted as The Top City in Asia and The Friendliest City by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler magazine.
